Sean Penn is a jerk, Or: Leave Fox News Alone
For those of my friends who are liberal, I apologize. Perhaps you should skip this. For those who are conservative, rejoice, because Rich is pissed off.
Robert Byrd, Sean Penn, and, as usual, the media have gone too far. I’ll go after Sean Penn first because he’s the easiest. The man is a psycho. He took out a full page ad recently in the New York Times to whine about his children’s soul and how he’s a patriot and how Bush eats babies. Let me explain this very clearly. You cannot be a patriot and hate America. Jane Fonda, who visited Communist troops in Vietnam, was not a patriot. Sean Penn, who objects to “consumerism” (aka he’s a commie), and who visited Iraq to kiss Saddam Hussein’s ass, is not a patriot. Sean Penn also wrote that the Iraqi people would be ruined by the war (cause democracy sucks, doesn’t it?) Furthermore, actors are not in any way qualified to tell the public how they should behave politically. Like any other citizen, they are entitled to their opinion, but unfortunately they have a national podium from which to shout their views and many of them are completely irresponsible. Some, including Alec Baldwin promised to leave the country if Dubya was elected. I’m still waiting.
I read an article today in TIME about how great Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) is. What a great guy. Former KKK member, fought civil rights, has appropriated billions of national taxpayer dollars to West Virginia (still a confederate hellhole, last time I checked). Now he’s calling for a congressional investigation into the reasons we went to war. Let’s play devil’s advocate. The war’s over. We can’t find Saddam. We haven’t found any weapons of mass destruction. We haven’t found satisfying links to Al-Qaeda. We’ve pissed off the world. The coalition never existed. The Iraqi are suffering. And OH MY GOD, US SOLDIERS ALLOWED THE LOOTING OF IRAQI NATIONAL TREAUSURES!! OH NO!!! Ahem. Back to reality. The war’s over. We can’t find Saddam, but he sure as hell ain’t killing anymore of his own citizens. We haven’t found any weapons of mass destruction, just Iraqi scientist after scientist who tell us they were involved in making them! We’ve found documents that Saddam’s gov’t and Al-Qaeda had continual correspondence. The only people pissed are France and Germany. The coalition did exist, and Poland stepped up the plate big time (I’m never telling a Polish joke again) with their kick-ass secret forces, and the balance of power in Europe has shifted a little more East, but stopped before the Russian border (Russia and Germany are learn that payback is a bitch after centuries of partitioning Poland). The Iraqi people are being misled by Iranian clerics who want to establish a theocracy and Baghdad is rife with crime (but crime doesnt rise in a vacuum, their own fellow Iraqi’s are the criminals), but Iraq is on its way towards a torture and mass-grave-free country. And the whole looting thing? Most of it was just being held by Iraqi’s for safekeeping, and has been returned. Only thing missing is some stupid pot. Not a big deal. So yeah, Byrd. Good luck with that committee to denounce the war and impeach Bush. That’ll work out great.
And just read the freaking news to realize why the media are pissing me off. The attacks on FOX news, Jason Blair, and the New York Times in general are my top problems. I’m gonna go get my bat.
