I like PCs. A lot. I don’t care for Macs, even if they’re supposedly “easier” to work. There aren’t that many differences between Macs and PCs, except for the slowness and the sucking of Macs.
Even on a really really “fast” Mac, the time it takes to load up the internet on a Mac vs. a PC is ridiculous. You sit there and watch the black and white spinny thing turn and turn, and then when it’s REALLY thinking, you sit there and watch the color wheel spin and spin, and you’re wondering what the fuck is it doing? With a PC, if it’s ever slower than it should be for the kind of connection it has, you can just Control Alt Delete and it stops the program. With Macs, you have to know the EXACT combination of Apple key plus other random keys on the keyboard to get it to stop. It just sits there. Most of my friends own iBooks or a Mac, and I just don’t get it.
The other day, when I was waiting around for a class, I heard some professors talking about PCs vs. Macs and they all started laughing at the “imbeciles” who think PCs are easier to use. I guess I just want to know why it’s supposedly easier, versus a PC which is incredibly simple. I’ve never had a Mac user friend use my computer and ask me “How do you open the internet?” or anything else for that matter. It all begins with the Start key or a nice little icon on the Desktop. Not with Macs. Everything’s hidden or you have to press Apple N to get the internet to open after you’ve double clicked the icon! What the hell is that?
Anyway, I have a lot more to say but this is really long, so I’d love to hear back on why Macs are either more fun/easier/faster, etc. In the meantime, I remain a hardcore PC fan.
Okay, I brought the fight over to the right forum. Picky. Now, Point A: Macs are quieter than whisper quiet. I dont know about the iBook, but the iMac doesn’t have a fan. So yeah, it gets hot enough to fry an egg, but it doesnt make any noise in the process. Point 2: Macs can be slow, from time to time. But so can PC’s! My overall point is that Macs are the REAL personal computer. You’re mac will love you just as much as you love it, and you can personalize it to death and make it do all these neat things for you. And yes, you can GET similar programs for the PC, but my point is that they dont come with them. PC’s come built with windows and maybe some other microsoft accessories, all purely functional crap, with the one amenity being solitaire. Macs come off the shelf full of goodies to entertain you for hours. And what I was saying in the other forum is that if you take the time to learn what everything does, you can really have a lot of fun with your mac. There’s all kinds of stuff to discover on it. There’s nothing hidden on a PC. Ain’t no treasure to discover there. A Mac is like a child, always growing, always learning, always filling your life with wonder. A PC is like a dog. It can eat and it can shit, and that’s about it.

I’ll take built-in post-it notes and a search program that’ll integrate computer files with internet searching over minesweeper or some nonsense. And Mac’s crash worse than PC’s, but also crash less. And I’ll point out that when you do lots of stuff with your computer, like download lots of movies/music and delete them often(because of moving to a cd or just to save room), Macs are much easier to use. See, you don’t ever have to defrag a mac. It’s pretty damn sweet to know that your computer isn’t running slow as hell because your hard drive isn’t 40% fragmented. Frankly, I only use the laptop because every major program uses windows, so its a bitch and a half cause you get left out on a lot of good stuff using a mac. But the mac is a better machine in terms of ease-of-us and prettiness.

You’re right, you don’t have to defrag a Mac, because they don’t want you to. Most users couldn’t figure out how to anyway, or even what it does.
I’ll have you know my computer has crashed once since the day I built it, and it was my fault. (don’t mess with hex editors, system files, and bypassing windows security.) I won’t get into Apple’s idea of protected memory, it makes me sick. Suffice it to say, they’re far more vulnerable to crashes; program and system.
You mention downloading lots of movies/music/files etc, but seem to neglect the fact that the Mac’s file system is inferior to the native windows standard, which is more secure and faster.
I’ll give you ease of use, but only because Macs lack depth - you can’t do half of what you can on windows. I’ll even give you asthetic value, assuming you’re gay and like tissue boxes.
